Important Climate Survey - We Need Your Input

For the surveys, we will NOT ask for individually identifiable information such as a person’s name, address, phone number or social security number. Students in grades 3 – 12 will complete the anonymous survey while at school. Parents who want to preview student survey questions should call 210-368-8725 prior to the launch. Parents who do not want their students to participate in the survey should send a note to the principal no later than Monday, September 24, 2018 stating you do not want your child to take the climate survey. Students will begin taking their surveys on September 25, 2018.

What type of questions will students see on their survey?

The district had identified six  topics that we are most interested in learning about and improving upon. The questions asked on the survey are designed to measure these topics:

  • School Climate – Perceptions of the overall social and learning climate of the school.
  • School Rigorous Expectations – How much students feel that their teachers hold them to high expectations around effort, understanding, persistence and performance in class.
  • School Engagement – How attentive and invested students are in school.
  • School Teacher-Student Relationships - How strong the social connection is between teachers and students within and beyond the school.
  • School Learning Strategies – How well students deliberately use strategies to manage their own learning processes.
  • School Safety – Perceptions of student physical and psychological safety while at school.

What type of questions will parents see on their survey?

The district has identified four topics for parents and the topics include:

  • School Climate – Perceptions of the overall social and learning climate of the school.
  • School Fit – Families’ perceptions of how well a school matches their child’s developmental needs.
  • Family Engagement – The degree to which families become involved with and interact with their child’s school.
  • Barriers to Engagement - Factors that can create challenges for families to interact with or become involved with their child’s school.
  • School Safety – Perceptions of student physical and psychological safety while at school.
