Dr. Mina Schnitta is a twenty-three year veteran educator who is committed to ensuring that every student and teacher is successful within today’s ever changing world of learning. Dr. Schnitta earned her bachelors in Public Administration from Samford University, her masters in Educational Administration from University of Houston and her doctorate in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Schnitta began her teaching career in South Carolina where she was a high school reading teacher. She had the honor of entering school administration in 1998 at Clear Lake High School in Houston, Texas. Dr. Schnitta is an innovative leader who led Baker Sixth Grade campus in La Porte ISD which was featured in Texas Monthly, The Best of Public Schools for it’s achievement for mathematics in 2004. She has been honored as a statewide professional learning leader by the Texas Staff Development Council in 2010 during her time as Principal of Waller Junior High School where the campus received it’s first ever “Recognized” state accountability rating. Dr. Schnitta has also worked as the Principal of Hogg Middle School in Houston ISD where she led the International Baccalaureate authorization process and led the campus to be removed from the “Improvement Required” accountability list. Prior to joining the Ft. Sam Houston Independent School District, Dr. Schnitta occupied the position of Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning in Huntsville ISD where oversaw secondary curriculum, instruction, instructional coaching, assessment and professional learning programs. In 2019, the secondary instructional coaching team was recognized statewide by Learning Forward Texas for excellence in professional learning. She has also served on state committees one as a participant with TASA’s Future Leaders Development Consortium and the other with TPAC, a group committed to developing a robust accountability system that relies on the use of meaningful assessments. During her free time, Dr. Schnitta enjoys mentoring students within the school district, exercising, cooking, reading and spending time with her nephews and niece. At the heart of Dr. Schnitta’s work is that of teaching and learning and she is excited to have joined the FSHISD team as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning so that she can spread her knowledge and passion for the “work”.
