FSHE Army Pride Group Finishes Out the Year with a Hug!

As deployments continue to affect our military families, MCEC and FSHISD want to provide lasting resources to our students and families. Through the Army Pride group, the counselors and Military Student Transition Consultant (MSTC), provide guided discussions and activities for peer support and useful coping techniques before, during, and after the deployment of their parent.

In closing out the school year, the district MSTC reached out to Operation Give a Hug to supply the group with "Deployment Dolls" to continue ongoing support during the summer months. Operation Give a Hug responded by donating Deployment Dolls for every child in the group. These dolls allow children an opportunity to attach a picture of their deployed parent and are designed to showcase military pride.

Cole Takes Gold!
The Cole High School Lady Cougars track team won the Gold medal in the 4x400m relay at the UIL State Track and Field Meet on Saturday, May 11. The team impressively shattered the school record in both the 4x400m relay and 4x100m relay (5th place at State). Congratulations to Charlene Jordan, Jamie Douglas, Jalen Gomez, and Jasmine Brinson for their outstanding performance. Their total performance on Saturday placed Cole High School 8th out of all the 2A schools in the State. The video footage of their exciting race can be found HERE.

Elementary Students Win National Contest!
GreenRibbonSchool.com hosts an annual contest where student groups create a video game based on the theme of "Healthy Lifestyles." Last year, one of our 5th grade teams took first place in the Elementary Division. They say history repeats itself, and a team from the Fort Sam Houston Elementary school has won again!   The team of Kyla, Reese, and Madyson from Mrs. Bills' class won the top honor in the Elementary Division. They were lead by our wonderful and energetic Technology Applications teacher, Mrs. Schiebel.   Each of the girls will receive a laptop computer as will Mrs. Schiebel. The school will also be awarded a laptop.   Here's a LINK to the winners' page. From there, you'll be able to play the game the girls created.    Way to go!!!
