Wireless Internet Access

All district-provided student & staff devices are configured for automatic access to wireless internet.

Guest Wifi Access:

Effective Summer 2024, each staff member is provided one unique key, specific to the user, to access this Wi-Fi on a device, such as a mobile phone. This is the only accessible Wi-Fi for non-district managed devices.

Please contact the Technology Department for guest speakers and presenters who need temporary access with at least 24 hours advance notice.

Please note for the guest network usage and responsibility:
- The guest wireless service is provided “as is” for educational purposes.
- Internet access via this network is filtered and monitored.
- It is shared with other public devices.
- FSHISD assumes no responsibility for any malicious theft or interception of data transmitted over the guest network.
- Virus protection and security are the responsibility of the wireless user.

What about student personal devices, such as personal computers and cell phones?
Student personal devices are the most vulnerable targets to cyberattacks and cannot connect to the district Wi-Fi. Students are less likely to recognize phishing emails, malicious websites, or suspicious app permissions. Many apps are often downloaded without checking permissions or understanding personal risks. Some apps have security vulnerabilities that can exploited by attackers and leave the district network exposed to threats.

Fort Sam Houston ISD highly recommends students utilize the district-issued device. This device provides a secure, consistent, and education-focused environment. District-issued devices are configured with security features and necessary content filters. This helps protect students from accessing inappropriate or harmful content. Utilizing personal laptops may bypass these filters, potentially exposing them to risks.
