District History

Fort Sam Houston ISD, established in 1951, is a unique Texas public school district located entirely on Fort Sam Houston, serving over 1,500 military-connected students. The district operates one elementary campus and one combined middle/high school, delivering strong academic outcomes that consistently exceed national averages. Funded primarily through federal Impact Aid and the Texas Public School Foundation Program, FSHISD operates without taxing authority. With a low student-teacher ratio and highly experienced educators, the district has earned national recognition for excellence, including federal honors and prestigious awards for both academic performance and community partnerships.
