The purpose of the Fort Sam Houston Elementary School curriculum is to provide comprehensive well-balanced learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate for each student. The state-mandated Pre-Kinder Guidelines form the core of the curriculum; however, additional enrichment activities are included to extend this minimum requirement.

Pre-kindergarten at Fort Sam Houston Elementary offers a full-day instructional program to those meeting eligibility requirements. The Fort Sam Houston Elementary Pre-Kinder program also services qualified students in special programs such as English as a Second Language, At-Risk and Special Education. Fort Sam Houston Elementary currently implements Second Step Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum, Mindfulness and Restorative Discipline approaches as part of our campus-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support System to promote the social-emotional development of our students. We also provide innovative frameworks for instruction that allow us to customize learning experiences that are both engaging and enriching based on student interests and data analysis. The faculty and staff include specialists in music, visual art, drama, Spanish, library, instructional technology, and physical education.

The Fort Sam Houston Elementary Pre-Kinder program also provides students with Outdoor Learning. The purposes of Outdoor Learning at Fort Sam Houston Elementary are to provide students with opportunities to engage in unstructured play in a natural setting with peers to encourage and develop collaboration, creative thought, problem-solving, strength and resilience.

Under the Shared Service agreement, the Military School Districts' Special Education Cooperative serves students residing on the military installation of Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, and Randolph Field Independent School Districts. The Cooperative’s mission is to ensure that children identified with disabilities receive an appropriate educational program tailored to their specific needs. To achieve this objective, the Cooperative facilitates coordination among staff, resources, as well as policies and procedures across the three school districts on the military installation.

The Military School Districts’ Cooperative supports the districts in equipping our families, educators, and support staff with the necessary tools to aid children with special needs. Our aim is to ensure they have equal opportunities to participate in activities fostering their academic, physical, and social-emotional development.

The Military School Districts’ Cooperative serves military families stationed on Fort Sam Houston, Lackland and Randolph Field ISD. Annually there is an average mobility rate of 30% due to military moves and relocations (PCS). While these moves can happen at any time, a significant portion occurs between July and September, and again between December and January. Because of the transient nature of our military family population, the Cooperative reserves its capacity for resident student enrollment.

Joint Base San Antonio School Liaison Office (SLO) helps parents ease the transition of the mobile military lifestyle and can assist prior to your PCS, upon arrival, while at your installation and when you prepare to depart for your next duty station. They specialize in serving military families with K-12 school-age children and are able to provide information about the local school systems and community. The SLO will support parents and school districts with the Interstate Compact for the Education of Military Students interpretation, information on schools and boundaries, Home School, Deployment Support, provide School and Community Outreach partnerships. These military-dependent education professionals serve as a link between military families and all surrounding school districts ensuring maximum educational opportunities for academic success.
