Student Devices (Chromebooks)

Our student devices initiative, provides all students in grades 6–12 with a dedicated Chromebook for both school and home use and all students grades K-5 with access to Chromebooks through their Classroom teachers. Through this program, we are fostering a "Connected Classroom" that empowers students to collaborate, think critically, and thrive in a digital world.

1 to 1 Chromebooks for Robert G. Cole Cole MS/HS Students

The 1:1 Chromebook program at Robert G. Cole provides every student with a district-issued device to seamlessly integrate technology into daily learning. These school-managed laptops grant universal access to online textbooks, Google Classroom, and educational apps both at school and home. To ensure a secure, distraction-free environment aligned with Texas regulations, students must use these official devices, while personal electronics are restricted from the campus Wi-Fi. Ultimately, this initiative bridges the digital divide and equips Cole's military-connected students with the vital technical and collaborative skills needed for college and future careers.

Chromebook Carts at Fort Sam Houston Elementary School

At Fort Sam Houston Elementary School, the Chromebook cart program provides young learners with structured, on-campus access to digital tools without the responsibility of carrying devices home. Mobile charging carts stationed in classrooms ensure a fully charged, district-managed Chromebook is available to every student during the school day. This setup allows teachers to seamlessly integrate digital lessons, Google Classroom, and educational software while maintaining control over screen time and device handling. By keeping the technology safely at school, the program builds foundational tech literacy in a secure environment tailored to elementary students.

Chromebook Care and Repair

Taking care of a Chromebook starts with simple daily habits. Students should always carry the device with two hands, close the lid gently when moving between classrooms, and ensure no pencils or papers are left on the keyboard before shutting it. Keeping food and liquids far away from the workspace prevents accidental spills, while using a soft, microfiber cloth keeps the screen free of smudges without risking scratches from harsh chemicals. Preforming restarts regulalry wil help ensure that your Chromebook runs smoothly and charging it everynight  will help prolong the units battery life.

Many daily tech hiccups can be resolved in seconds without visiting putting in a Chromebook Repair Ticket. If a Chromebook freezes or won't connect to the school Wi-Fi, the quickest fix is a simple hard restart (holding down the Refresh key and pressing the Power button). For sluggish performance or missing extensions, clearing the browser cache, updating Chrome OS through the settings menu, or performing a basic hardware reset usually resolves the issue. Quick Fixes for Chromebook

When a problem requires an expert eye—such as a cracked screen, broken port, or total power failure—students or teachers can quickly log an official service request through Incident IQ. Users simply sign in using their school credentials, select their specific device, and choose from a menu of common symptoms. Providing a brief, clear description of what happened helps the campus tech team diagnose and repair the issue much faster.

While normal wear and tear is expected, accidental or intentional damage may incur fees. If a device requires a replacement part due to negligence, a fine is assessed based on a standardized district fee schedule for components like screens, keyboards, or lost chargers. Invoices are tracked transparently through the student account, and parents can easily view details and submit secure digital payments directly through the district's online payment portal.
